This was last moths pick for my book club. I had picked it up on the store display several times and considered it, so I'm happy we finally read it. It is pure who-done it, but with some really quirky characters. It involves a missing teenaged girl, presumed murdered some 40 years ago. As a publicly humiliated journalist takes some time to lick his wounds, he is hired by the missing girl's elderly uncle to try and solve the mystery. As he begins to discover other missing girl's murder's, he uncovers some really, REALLY grizzly details of their deaths. At times I found these details more than I could bear. (Note: I never read Silence of the lambs, because I heard too many people say it was horrid. SO, maybe I am overly squeemish, just know you were warned.)Once or twice I actually stopped, unsure if this was a book I really wanted to continue reading. But it was, and I did, and in the end, I guess I have to say, as usual, the writer knew what he was doing....I think. Maybe it would have been a less interesting book. Maybe it would have been less powerful. I enjoyed it, but have to admit, I figured out the culprit fairly early on.But,there were some pretty good twists I never saw coming, as well.
