If I could give this 2 1/2 stars on Goodreads, I would. Touted by Stephen King as one of the thrmree most important horror novels of the 20th century, it is actually part horror and part spy thriller. The horror aspect of the book is quite scary indeed, creating some graphic and spooky imagery on par with the greats. The spy thriller aspect, however, was an appallingly abysmal fail with some of the schlockiest writing known to man, and ultimately weighed down the latter third of the novel--unfortunately, dragging the plot down with it. I've heard Simmons has better books, and I'll likely give them a try.
