I really enjoyed this book, but I thought the title was kind of deceptive. I think it should have been called, "The Oregon Trail," since it was mostly about that, with the story of being a water dowser acting as bookends to the story of a family traveling to Oregon. Having played that game obsessively as a kid, I couldn't decide if I was more excited by the nostalgia of it all (Fort Laramie! Chimney Rock! Do I ford the Columbia or take the Barlow Toll Road?!) or if I wished the author would have come up with something more original. Not that you can really be original about that-- the Oregon Trail is what it is, so it's not her fault that the game already covered all the most interesting pit stops. So I had mixed feelings about it. But I kept reading. ;)
