I read this book before it was published and absolutely loved it! When it comes out in paperback (soon), buy it!! It has the tone of Salinger's Catcher in the Rye, but deals with an intelligent teenager who is struggling to define his future (should he go to college or use his college money to buy a house in the prarie?) and his sexual identity. To complete the picture, the protagonist has a dysfunctional family (an absent mother who's just ended her third marriage two days into her Las Vegas honeymoon and an older sister who's delving into the existential crisis of college while having an affair with her married professor). This is the coming-of-age story of our time. Both funny and touching.
