This is my first Elizabeth Scott novel. The story is simple, but what makes it so engaging is that it's very realistic. Kate, the main character, is going through some major changes. Her best friend has dumped her to hang out with the popular crowd, her dad has quit his job to sell vitamins, and she can't get the cute, but noncommital Wll out of her head. What I loved about this book is that it took me back to when I was sixteen and I could totally relate to the main character. Sure, Kate is a little shallow and wrapped up in her own problems, but she's 16 and has a lot to learn. She's also funny and I like that she never gives up hope that her and Anna can work things out and go back to being friends. It may not work out the way she wants it to - life, but I think the author did a great job showing how we change as we get older. Some things grow with us, some things we out grow, and sometimes, we learn we never truly knew a person to begin with. Ultimately, this book is about learning that happiness is not a given. We have to remember to look on the bright side of life, especially during the hard times.
