Beautiful, interesting story that kept me in suspense through the final page. I had a bit of an issue with the "miscommunication" line of the story, since I could identify with Lily's interpretation and reaction to the letter in question; however, I found a bit of clarification in the author's afterword. Overall, I loved the story, the characters, and the infinite detail! I was so impressed with Lisa See's seemingly flawless interpretation of a bygone era in China, thanks to her copious research! I would definitely recommend this book to friends.
