My all time favorite! The only daunting thing about this book is lugging it around. Don't be put off by its size. Tolstoy is a master and creates unforgettable characters who reflect the particular dynamics of their time. Tolstoy doesn't stop there, however. His final chapter is a powerful musing on cause and effect in history. Anyone who reads Messud's "The Emperor's Children" will find a lot of W&P references.
